Many people have children, and they love to take care of and spoil their little ones. Others have pets. These furry creatures are their children and best friends. It only makes sense for them to be included in the wedding day! There are several ways to include pets in your wedding day. We are sharing a few of our favorites with you!

Ceremony
There are different ways to include your favorite animal in the reception. The first is having your pet be the flower girl or ring bearer. They can run down the aisle with a cute bucket of flowers in their mouth or hold on to the pillow with the rings tied to it. If you would rather have your ring be brought down the aisle by a different loved one like a niece or nephew, your dog could come down the aisle with a cute sign that says, “Wait ‘til you see her” or “I can’t be trusted with the ring.”

Your pet can also be included in the wedding party. If you want your pet to stand on the side with the bridesmaids, find her a cute tutu that matches the bridesmaids’ dresses. If you want your dog to stand with the groomsmen, find him a little bow tie that matches the groomsmen.

One way to include your pets without them physically being at the ceremony is with photos. A unique idea we’ve seen is to have a picture of your pet in your bouquet. Brides will sometimes have charms or jewelry in their bouquet. If you decide on a charm, include a locket with a picture of your fur child.

If you don’t like furry friends, but love water and fish, you can have a unity fish bowl. We have heard of one couple that combined both of their fish into a larger fish bowl symbolising the unity of their new family.
Reception
There are so many great ways to include your animals in the reception without physically having them there. One way is to name your signature cocktails after them. Choose a cocktail that describes your animal’s personality and name it after them! Some of our clients have named their cocktails after their cats.

Adding your pet into your cake topper is a fun way to include them. If you are having a cake topper modeled after you and your fiance, why not include a model of your furry friend as well! The cake is a focal point for the reception, so all of your guests are sure to see the cake topper of your little family.
Photography/Videography
Photographs and videos allow you to look back and forever remember your big day! They are also a great way to allow your animals to be part of your wedding. Let your photographer know ahead of time so they can prepare some sweet poses with your pet. Also, be sure to tell them if you have a particular shot in mind!

One of the most fun ways we have seen animals included is with video. Attach a GoPro to your furry child and let them wear it throughout the ceremony and reception. This will allow you to see what the wedding is like from your pet’s perspective!
Here at Common Sense Events, we know how important your furry friends are to some of you. We hope these suggestions help you invision ways to include them in your big day!

tips for designing a spring centerpiece

One of the most crucial parts to a wedding is the design! The design creates the atmosphere of the wedding. One challenging part is keeping the design in the ceremony and reception cohesive, especially the centerpieces. This week, we wanted to share a few tips for designing your wedding centerpiece!
Color Palette
Pick a color palette for your wedding and try to stick with it. This will simplify your wedding design process. You will know what colors to us for your decor, bridesmaids dresses, wedding favors, florals, and your reception centerpieces. If you deviate from the colors in your centerpiece, make sure you choose a color that compliments your color pallette and does not compete with it.

Include Table Numbers
Every table at a wedding should have a number. Make sure to include this number as a part of your centerpiece. Sometimes couples will design their tables only to find out the table numbers clashes. Including the number early on will avoid it competing with the rest of the table and will give your reception tables the look you want.

Greenery
One trend that has grown increasingly popular is having mainly greenery on reception tables. We love this natural look! However, this design can look like it belongs in fall or winter season. One way to give it a fresh feel for spring is by adding white candles. These can be large or small depending on the size and shape of your tables. A few other items that can change the feel of your tables are lanterns and vases. Adding a mix of candles, lanterns, and vases can add a fun dynamic to your tables.

White Florals with a Pop of Pastel
The exclusive use of white florals is another trend that we think is beautiful! Adding a pop of color will add another level to your decor. Opt for a pastel color. This gives your reception a light spring feel and allows you to get creative with your tableware/cutlery. Using different metals and textures on the table will give it an eclectic look. If you are having a rustic wedding, opt for a wood vase. For a classic wedding, place your white flowers in a metal vase or try mercury glass for a unique touch.

Silver, Gold, or Rose Gold
When designing a wedding, you will typically include silver, gold or rose gold. One great way to tie your wedding decor together is by choosing one of these metals and sticking with it. To get a cohesive look, repeat the same color in the centerpiece that you use in the rest of the decor.

why you need a wedding planner

When planning a wedding, couples typically fall in two categories. The first are couples who absolutely love it and want to experience the planning season to the fullest. They enjoy communicating with their vendors and figuring out all the small details that go into their special day. The other extreme are couples who do not like all the planning involved in putting together their  wedding. They get overwhelmed with all the details and frustrated when communicating with vendors.

Regardless of their mindset, all couples need extra help for their wedding day. Whether you enjoy planning your wedding or are beginning to consider the merits of eloping, having someone come alongside you to plan the wedding will make your engagement season much more enjoyable. In this blog, we’re going to share a few reasons why you should hire a wedding planner.

What is a Wedding Planner?
A wedding planner is different from a day of coordinator. A day of coordinator will meet with you once or maybe a few times to discuss your wedding, but is not involved in all the details of planning your wedding. They will make your day run smoothly, but all of the planning falls on you. If you have a very limited budget, a day of coordinator is a great option. They will ensure that your day is fantastic.

A wedding planner comes alongside you and your fiancé as you plan your big day. They will be as involved as you want them to be.  My suggestion is that you have them involved as much as possible. Hire them in the early stages of wedding planning that way you can get their insight from the very beginning.

Experience
Weddings are a planner’s job. They will have the expertise and know how to plan your wedding in the smoothest way possible and can walk you through the entire process. They will know what works and what doesn’t. They can calculate such details as how many staff will be needed, how much time is required for photos, what will be needed for your cocktail hour, and so much more. From discussions with you, the planner will be able to see what you want and then make it come to life for you. If you don’t have a solid vision, they will help you create it.

Vendors
Wedding planners are in the industry, so they are familiar with who the very best is in the industry. They can help you find a venue, florist, photographer, caterer, rental company, bartender, DJ, designer, and any other service you may want at your wedding. You can trust their suggestions because they have seen many vendors and know who outshines everyone else. Planners can reach out to your vendors and arrange details with them.

Day of Ease
Just like your planner organized and planned all of your details, they will do the same thing day of. You can be at peace on your wedding day because they know as much as you do about your big day, if not more. They know when and where everything is happening. They know how all  the decorations will be set up. They know about any family drama, have made a plan to work around it, and will diffuse any family issues that arise. Your planner will field questions and phone calls, so you won’t be bothered. They know everything that goes into your special day, so you won’t need to worry about it.

Hiring a wedding planner can make your engagement season much more enjoyable. Your wedding planner will ease your worries, give you peace of mind, and work out all of your details! The coordinators listed below are phenomenal and are sure to take away your wedding planning stress!

non-traditional ideas for a bachelor party

Often times, wedding details are a reflection of the bride and her preparation. Some grooms want to be involved and others prefer to stay out of the planning process. One thing that the groom will definitely be a part of is the bachelor party. While many grooms enjoy going to Vegas with their buddies, some prefer something much more low key. In this blog, we are going to share a few non-traditional bachelor party ideas!
Camping
It is no surprise that a nature lover would not want to go out on the town for their bachelor party. For the outdoorsy man, take him camping. You can sleep in a tent or directly under the stars. The awesome thing about camping is that there are so many activities that can be combined with camping. A few of these activities are hiking, off-roading, and shooting. For a more active bachelor party, hiking and off-roading are both adventurous activities.  Shooting can be equally exciting but just be sure it is done in a safe manner. Find a location where shooting is legal and be sure to have someone that is experienced with guns oversee this portion of the party.

Game Night
For someone who would much rather stay in for his party, a game/cigar night would be fitting. For the groom who loves video games, bring a few monitors and get several games up and going. If the groom likes board games, bring an assortment of strategy games.  A game of poker would be a traditional activity that many grooms would enjoy. One unique thing to have at a game night is a cigar bar. Offer a few different blends at the bar (mild, medium, rich/robust). Offer a few different sizes, such as a mini cigarillo. Make sure to include ashtrays and cigar cutters.
Backyard BBQ
If the groom likes to keep things low key, perhaps a backyard BBQ would be his preference. This will allow him to relax and enjoy time with his buddies. For food, grill hamburgers, hotdogs, or steaks and wash them down with a cold beer. It is smart to have a few games setup even if people may not play them. This gives guests options in case the conversation gets slow. Lawn games are great for this! Make sure to include corn hole, giant jenga, lawn darts, ladderball, croquet, etc.

Brewery Tour
A brewery tour is an educational and insightful activity for the groom and his groomsmen. Some cities offer a package that includes several different breweries. If the groom has a favorite beer, try touring just that brewery. One activity that some breweries are offering is axe throwing. This will be a way to add some excitement to the tour! Most local breweries will offer a tour and pair it with discounts on food and beverages or even an included beer tasting. If the groom does not prefer beer, try touring a meadery or whiskey tasting.

As a groomsman or best man, you play a unique part in your friend’s wedding. We hope that this blog post was helpful in the planning process for his bachelor party. Keep in mind that the primary goal is that the groom enjoys himself and feels honored!

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up and we know that Guinness is the item everyone wants for their party. Guinness is a classic beer to have at every St. Patty’s Day party! Although Guinness is a favorite beverage for many people, it can also be incorporated into your food. Your guests will be amazed at the many creative ways you can use Guinness! It can be used to make a variety of drinks but also in appetizers, entrees, and desserts.
Appetizers
Appetizers are going to be the first thing your guests eat at your St. Patrick’s Day Party. They might be tray passed by servers or offered on a self-serve table. Either way, this food will leave a great first impression for your guests. You want them to love the food but save room for dinner and dessert. Three great options for appetizers are Guinness Candied Bacon, Guinness Cheddar Dip with Chips, and Guinness Battered Onion Rings. These will satisfy your guests but leave them wanting more.

Dinner
Dinner is the main part of the night so this is where you can have fun and explore recipes that use Guinness. Three that we have found are Guinness Pasta, Guinness Stew, and, of course, Guinness Corned Beef. To make the pasta more filling, include bacon (You can use the Guinness bacon recipe above). Your guests are sure to enjoy any of these three recipes.

Dessert
One part of the night that you wouldn’t typically think to include Guiness is dessert. Surprisingly, there are many yummy sweet treats that are made with Guiness! Guinness compliments the richness of these desserts. Some of these are cupcakes, snickerdoodles, and Guinness floats.
