About Falls Creek Farm:

Falls Creek Farm is a sprawling, picturesque property nestled between the rural towns of Moosup and Sterling in Eastern Connecticut. Steeped in history and natural beauty, the land was once a private luxury estate …the kind of place locals remember by name… and over time, it has evolved into something much more: a vibrant, multi-use destination with deep roots in both the equestrian and event communities.

In 2022, co-owner Marisa made a leap, leaving behind her life in California as a realtor to start fresh on the East Coast. What began as a personal adventure quickly became a passion project. Marisa poured her heart into upgrading the property, stewarding the land, and cultivating an experience that merges rustic charm with refined hospitality. Today, she leads the equestrian side of the business, offering training, boarding, and riding in a setting that feels equal parts sanctuary and showplace.

The rest of the property is home to several beautiful guest houses, two distinct wedding venues, and a rotating calendar of celebrations managed by Common Sense Events, a nationally recognized venue management company. Together, the team shares a vision: to make Falls Creek not just a destination, but a place that leaves an imprint … whether you’re arriving with muddy boots or walking down the aisle.

It’s a special place. And with the right team, we believe it can become a regional landmark in both the wedding and equestrian industries — not just in Connecticut, but across the Northeast.

Role Description

The role we’re hiring for — Facilities & Property Manager — is a critical part of our mission. This person will help ensure that everything on the property works seamlessly behind the scenes: from lights and power systems, to water, shuttle vehicles, landscaping, and lodging maintenance. Their care and craftsmanship will directly shape the experience of every guest, every couple, and every family who visits Falls Creek.

We’re looking for a skilled, hands-on Facilities & Property Operations Manager to help us care for the core of the farm: the guest houses, wedding venues, utility systems, shuttles, and event infrastructure. This is not a landscaping job, and it’s not an events job — it’s about making sure everything works behind the scenes so our guests, riders, couples, and event staff experience a smooth, seamless environment.

You won’t be doing this alone — you’ll be working closely with Jeff (our on-site controller), Marisa (co-owner, who runs the equestrian business), and the venue team at Common Sense Events, who manage the wedding venue operations. Your work won’t overlap with theirs, but it will make theirs possible.

This is a role for someone who takes pride in solving problems, staying ahead of breakdowns, and keeping systems running — even when no one notices. Because that’s the thing about great property work: if it’s done right, it’s invisible.

🔧 What You’ll Be Responsible For

This position is full-time (especially during peak events season) and VERY hands-on. You’ll work across many areas of the farm, including:

⚡ Power & Utility Systems

  • Monitor, maintain, and manage all energy and fuel systems on-site: diesel, propane, generators, electric, solar (as applicable)

  • Ensure power availability for events and guest stays

  • Handle coordination of fuel deliveries and emergency/backup readiness

❄️ HVAC & Mechanical Systems

  • Oversee all heating, cooling, and ventilation systems in guest homes, event spaces, and offices

  • Schedule or perform maintenance and repairs

  • Keep everything functional for wedding days and peak seasons as well as winterized for the off-season

🚿 Water, Plumbing & Septic

  • Ensure smooth operation of all water systems and bathrooms

  • Monitor septic tanks, float switches, and usage levels

  • Coordinate or perform emergency pumping and plumbing fixes

🚌 Shuttle & Vehicle Oversight

  • Maintain our on-property shuttle buses and other vehicles:

    • Tire checks, battery upkeep, regen, general service

    • Registration, inspection, and compliance

  • Ensure vehicles are wedding-ready for guest transport and maintained consistently.

🏠 Guest Homes & Event Spaces

  • Handle repairs and maintenance for our rentable homes:

    • Appliances, outlets, decks, screens, windows, plumbing

  • Work with Jeff to approve vendor service calls when needed

🌳 Landscaping & Grounds

  • Support the overall beauty and safety of the property:

    • Mowing, weed whacking, brush clearing, edging for EVENT spaces

    • Clearing of beehives, nests, pests

    • Pool cleaning, garden bed maintenance, path upkeep

  • Ensure venue spaces are presentable before each event

🗑️ Trash & Waste Coordination

  • Manage trash flow from venue and lodging areas to disposal

  • Maintain working relationships with local waste vendors

  • Coordinate dumpster drop-off and pickup for large events

📆 Event Readiness

  • Review weekly event schedules provided by CSE

  • Prioritize property prep based on upcoming weddings and bookings

  • Flag any issues that might impact a guest experience

🧰 Bonus Points If You…

  • Have experience with mechanical systems, plumbing, or light electrical work

  • Enjoy working outdoors in a rural environment

  • Can handle light construction or basic handyman tasks

  • Take initiative to solve problems without being asked

🙌 Job Details:

💡 Who You Are

You’re someone who takes pride in keeping things running — the person others call when something breaks, because they know you’ll either fix it or figure it out. You’re mechanically minded, detail-oriented, and have the kind of work ethic that doesn’t need babysitting. You like variety in your day, aren’t afraid to get dirty, and find deep satisfaction in solving problems behind the scenes.

You might have experience in landscaping, general contracting, farming, HVAC, or building maintenance — or maybe you’ve just always been the “fix-it” person in your family. Either way, you’re someone who’s reliable, responsible, and willing to step up when it counts.

Most importantly, you understand that your role is essential to the success of a much larger mission. Weddings don’t happen without working bathrooms. Guest stays and events are ruined by power outages. Shuttle breakdowns can delay ceremonies. The small stuff is the big stuff — and you’re the one who makes sure none of it falls through the cracks.

💵 Pay, Schedule & Perks

This is a full-time, salaried role with seasonal flexibility.

Base Salary:

💰 $50k -$ 72k/year based on experience.

Bonuses & Extras:

  • 💸 Quarterly performance bonuses during the peak event season

  • 🎁 Annual bonus based on property success and role impact

  • ❤️ $100/month health stipend (starting after 60 days)

Hours & Seasonality:

  • Full-time hours (approx. 38–56 hrs/week) March–November

  • Reduced or flexible schedule December–February

  • Additional weekend support may be required around weddings — we’ll share a schedule and work as a team to manage it

We understand that this is a hands-on role, and we believe your compensation should reflect that.

🌟 Why Work With Falls Creek Farm

Falls Creek Farm is a special place — not just because of the land, the horses, or the weddings, but because of the people behind it. We’re building something that’s rooted in quality, care, and longevity. We don’t want a patch-it-and-forget-it person. We want a team member who takes pride in doing things right — someone who sees the big picture and wants to be part of a story that lasts.

You’ll be working on a property that means something to a lot of people — families, brides and grooms, local riders, and neighbors. When things go smoothly, you’re the reason why.

If you love variety, ownership, independence, and the satisfaction of a job well done… we’d love to meet you.
